The corner of Fern and Main

On the west side of the intersection of Fern and Main is what I thought was an abandoned building.

This building.

In the nine or so months we have lived here (Lord, has it been that long?) no one has gone in or out.
The lights are never on. the place is strewn with trash. There is wood, sofas, refrigerators, beds, and debris stacked against the windows.

We decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood about midnight last week, and passed by this place.

On closer inspection, Catey sees, spray-painted on the wall inside "No place like Home"

As we walk along the side of the house, we here music coming from inside. Like 40's music. Catey takes her flashlight and raps on the wood covered window, and the volume on the radio goes down by 50%.

Nobody moves.

Well, we don't move, someone inside does.

Then we run.

I whisper, "Not that way, that is towards our house, quick, this way and we can double back through the ally-way".

No one wants to walk down Fern St. again.

Day or night.
